Doggy Training Academy consists of two main stages. The first stage is where the students will learn proper dog grooming skills. This stage requires that they go through stage one grooming training, which includes pet grooming instructions and taking a pet grooming quiz. During the second stage, students will learn advanced dog grooming techniques such as nail clipping, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, wetting, skin brushing, and much more.
During the first stage, students will be asked to complete a short pet grooming session with their dog. During this session, they will be expected to perform the following tasks: combing the dog's hair, shaving the dog's coat, removing fleas and ticks, cleaning the ears, and bathing. The length of each of these activities depends on the type of animal being groomed. If it is a dog that has long hair, combing can take longer than if the dog is shorter. Shaving will also take longer than bathing if the dog is a shaggy kind. Ear cleaning and teeth brushing will take place in the second stage as well, though at this point, the dog will already be brushed.
After all of the above tasks have been completed successfully, students will be allowed to enter the dog grooming shop. At this point, there are a couple of other requirements. To start, there is a mandatory twenty-four hour waiting period. There is also a requirement to acquire a first aid certification through American Canine Safety Education. A pet cpr certificate will allow the groomer to perform basic first aid treatments should an emergency arise.
The pet grooming industry will require one to obtain a certificate after the completion of the second stage. This is important because it shows that the student has taken a step further in his or her training. To qualify for the certification exam, students need to complete fourteen days of supervised classes. After the completion of the second stage, the dog groomer will have completed the necessary courses. At this time, he or she will have the proper qualifications to sit for the certification exam.
After the completion of the second year training course, dog groomers will be able to sit for the national dog groomers' certification exam. Students from foreign countries are also allowed to sit for the exam. Candidates who reside in the United States will not be allowed to sit for the exam. Instead, they will have to register with the international association of pet groomers and wait until the certification is received.
A final exam will be given at the end of the year. Once this is complete, dog groomers will be able to receive their official professional licenses. The licenses will allow them to apply for jobs at dog grooming centers or to open their own individual salons. They will then be able to legally service dogs throughout the state. After the license is received, the dog groomer will be able to legally begin offering dog grooming services.
